Carlos is a Research Fellow in Health Economics at Bristol Medical School, contributing to a wide range of applied health research projects within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) South West. His work involves close collaboration with academia, the NHS, industry, and other partners. A key recent focus of his research is on implementation science, particularly how to translate evidence into practice. He is also a member of Health Economics and Health Policy at Bristol (HEHP@Bristol).
Carlos employs a broad range of methodologies, including natural experiments, cost-effectiveness analysis, decision-analytic modelling, and qualitative methods, working across multidisciplinary fields. His research is consistently oriented towards promoting the common good, with interests spanning consumerism, public health interventions, harm reduction, mental health, and behaviour change.
He is also actively engaged in public and policy engagement, which he considers a central component of his work. In addition, Carlos contributes to teaching and student supervision. He teaches health economics on Master’s programmes in Health Economics and Health Policy and Public Health at the University of Bristol, and contributes to ARC South West training.
