Background
| The Looked After Children Transition Hub seeks to help schools to support the education of children in care. It lasts 6-10 months, targets children aged 11-15 years in or on the edge of care, and provides multi-agency and personalised support for them, their carers and the respective schools in order to improve their education and well-being. The intervention was developed by Dr. Catherine Carroll (St. Mary’s University, Twickenham) and is being implemented by Achieving for Children (representing three local authorities near London) and Barnet Council. |
Project Aims
The study aims to explore, first, for whom and under what circumstances the LAC Transition Hub is feasible, and second, whether it shows positive outcomes on measures concerned with education and behaviour.
Project Activity
| The first phase of the project (January 2020 – May 2021) involves intervention development and data collection and analysis for the feasibility study.
The second phase (June – August 2021) involves taking stock of feasibility study results and developing a strategic evidence plan to inform the next phase. |
The third phase (September 2021 to March 2022) involves data collection and analysis for either (a) a pilot outcomes evaluation (if the feasibility study deems that this is warranted) or (b) further feasibility testing.
Anticipated Outputs
The project will generate a series of outputs, including reports on results from the feasibility study and pilot outcomes evaluation.
