Dementia and awareness; living well with dementia; person-centred care.
Cathy has a background in clinical medicine, with many years of experience as a general practitioner. She completed a PhD in medical studies researching awareness in people with mild-to-moderate dementia, working with the Research in Ageing and Cognitive Health (REACH) team and contributing to the IDEAL study of living well with dementia.
As a post-doctoral research fellow she is continuing this work with the IDEAL research team looking at aspects of awareness of condition associated with dyadic relationships, and helping develop new tools to assist people with dementia in prioritising activities and communicating wishes. She will continue researching awareness and, following her PhD work, will plan a validation study for the Healthcare Awareness Profile Interview developed to assess awareness.
