The effectiveness and implementation of Maternal Mental Health Services (ESMI-III) study has been cited as an impact case study informing perinatal health guidance and polices by ARC South London.
ESMI-III is part of a three year programme which aims to idenify effective ways to implement evidence based interventions to improve children’s health and maternity services across England. It is funded through the NIHR Applied Research Collaborations'(ARCs) Children’s and Maternity priority Research Programme.
The study is being used to inform the development and delivery of the Maternal Mental Health Service (MMHS) programme, which aims to support women experiencing moderate to severe or complex mental health difficulties during pregancy. It is hoped that by improving access to effective perinatal mental healthcare will help to reduce intergenerational transmission of mental ill health and improve maternal and family wellbeing.
